This role-playing game follows a new storyline as the player explores the Hoenn region and catches Pokémon. Pokémon Ruby lets players collect new Pokémon and battle one-on-one or in two-on-two matches. For the latter, players can link up with three friends to compete against one another or cooperate.
The game also features Pokémon contests, where participants are judged on coolness, beauty, cuteness, smartness and toughness. Two-on-two battles and contests add to its role-playing gameplay.
