A top-down tactical shooter in which the player commands a platoon during wartime and sends squads on combat missions. Objectives include eliminating enemies, destroying buildings, covert operations, and survival; tanks and helicopters have missions and environments tailored to them.
Soldiers gain experience and rise through the ranks, while the commander can customize their equipment and attributes. Fallen troops are lost permanently, making the survival of the platoon important to its progression. Medals and achievements earn respect points that unlock weapons and special abilities, including airstrikes and cluster bombs. Alongside the single-player campaign, the game features online deathmatch and team deathmatch.
