QIX is an arcade puzzle game about claiming sections of a playfield as an abstract entity moves through it. Each level begins with an empty rectangle, and the player controls a diamond-shaped marker that travels along its border and the edges of captured areas.
To claim part of the unoccupied space, the marker draws a line called a Stix and returns to a boundary to close off an area. The captured section joins the edge of the playfield, with the Qix's position determining which side is claimed. Drawing requires avoiding the entity and the exposed line, as well as Sparx enemies that move along the borders; collisions or stopping while a line is unfinished can cost a life.
