This action-adventure platformer with metroidvania elements follows half-genie Shantae, the self-appointed guardian of the fishing village of Scuttle Town. When the pirate Risky Boots attacks, Shantae sets out to find four elemental stones and stop her, while proving herself worthy of the title of Guardian Genie.
Shantae explores forests, deserts, swamps, and other parts of Sequin Land, traversing labyrinths guarded by bosses and uncovering secret passages. She fights by whipping enemies with her hair, while dance magic lets her transform into animals such as a monkey, an elephant, and a spider. New abilities and items help her progress, and the adventure also features mini-games, a day-and-night cycle, and encounters with her friends.
